Our 2026 VANCOUVER election endorsements

Vancouver Fire Fighters IAFF Local 18 is endorsing 5 candidates in Vancouver’s municipal election. Each one understands the problems our members face on the frontline and has practical ideas for solving them.

Candidates are listed alphabetically by surname.

How We Selected

For every candidate endorsed, the committee considers:

• Their track record, and their party’s track record – in particular, incumbents history of voting on critical issues and where their parties have historically stood
• How they answered our candidate questionnaire and interview questions – our Public Engagement Committee interviewed 13 candidates this year and all parties received a candidate survey.
• How they communicate and work with Local 18 – this gives us a sense of how we might work together, should they be elected, to keep Vancouver safe and prioritize key issues facing members

The committee votes on its selections, and the Local 18 Executive approves the list before it is shared with members. Decisions are made on merit and solely in the interests of our members.

Not receiving an endorsement does not necessarily mean a candidate is out of step with fire fighters’ priorities. We have a limited number of endorsements and had some very tough decisions to make. We see every candidate we interviewed as a potential ally in building a better Vancouver.

No matter who is elected, we trust we can build strong relationships at City Hall to communicate the best ways to keep Vancouver and our members safe.
